Advent and Waiting
I appreciated the Advent reflections in the winter 2008 Vistas, especially the piece by Frances Gussenhoven, R.S.H.M., who wrote: “We may tell ourselves that [the seasonal] activities are hardly spiritual. But a closer look reveals that we are living Advent as a preparation for making others happy. Advent, thus, lifts us out of ourselves and focuses on what we can do for others. We find ourselves becoming more expansive, more magnanimous and more generous, not only with our money but with our time, our planning and our presence.”
I share the belief that every experience, thought, emotion and action of life can be prayer as long as I am aware of the gift and presence of God in the present moment.
May we always be grateful for all we experience, especially the love, joy and peace of the Christmas season.

Where Are You, Alumni From the ’60s?
Each time I receive Vistas, I read it from cover to cover. When I get to the alumni section, I always look for news from alumni from the ’60s. There are none! Where are you, classmates? I know you are out there. Each of us made a difference in our own way, but why don’t you e-mail a note to Vistas and let your classmates know how you are doing?
If you are retired, what are you doing to keep busy? Some of us have climbed the ranks in the federal, state, county and city government. Some have become teachers and commercial pilots, or own major companies. Some entered the health professions and saved lives and have created beautiful smiles or helped improve the quality of life for many.
Show your colors! I am proud to have an LMU license plate frame on my car and love seeing “thumbs up” from other alumni while driving on the freeway. We don’t have to wait to become “Golden Lions” to talk it up. Let’s hear from you!

Missing Media Wizards
I loved the “New Media Wizards” article in the winter 2008 Vistas. I am a marketing manager in the Web-to-mobile entertainment industry and work with companies like Hydra Network, which employs Aron Schuhmann ’06, one of your wizards. I got in touch with him after seeing him in the magazine. Thank you for the article! It’s exciting to see fellow classmates featured and learn what they are up to, as well as to use the magazine for its networking information.
At the same time, I was very disappointed by the lack of female representation in the story. Yes, the new media business is a male-dominated industry. But that’s exactly why featuring an alumna would have made a great impact — by showing what amazing graduates LMU produces who shatter the “glass ceiling”!
After all, LMU is the reason why I am where I am today. If not for LMU and the Greek system, I wouldn’t have been referred to my first internship by a sorority sister. Now, my work includes designing, negotiating and managing advertising campaigns on the Web, in print and on television, which generates tens of thousands of dollars in revenue a month!
So thank you, LMU, for helping to make me a New Media Wizard. I just wish you’d recognize the hard-working women out there!

We made many efforts to identify alumnae engaged in similarly innovative work. We are disappointed and regret that we were not successful.—The Editor.
