Welcome to the Loyola Marymount University Department of Public Safety (DPS)!

Our mission is to create a safe and secure environment for all members of the LMU community, including students, faculty, staff, and guests.

Directed by Chief Raymond E. Hilyar and located in Foley Annex, LMU DPS is a full service campus security department operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The department employs in addition to the Chief, three Captains, six Lieutenants, parking manager, Emergency Preparedness Manager, a lead communication officer, and an office manager.  The department also maintains a staff of several contract security officers who conduct foot and vehicle patrols of the campus, assist students, faculty, and staff with residence halls and offices accesses, man the Leavey Gate entrance, and other responsibilities as needed.  In addition, LMU DPS employs several work study students who assist the department with routine office functions and serve as after-hours campus escorts.

All staff members are required to possess and maintain a license through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS), and current first aid / CPR certification.  In addition to these basic requirements, several officers have completed the state 832 P.C. course (Laws of Arrest), are Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T.), light search and rescue trained, and bring a wealth of experience from past assignments to their positions.
