BOB BEVERLY PAPERS, 1962-1996 (CSLA-7)
The Bob Beverly Papers consists of the district office files of the long-serving state legislator from the South Bay. Beverly was first sent to Sacramento as an assemblyman in 1967 and was elected to the state senate in 1976, where he continued to serve until 1996. The longevity of Mr. Beverly's legislative career as a prominent Republican member of both state houses, his various committee chairmanships, and his party leadership on a local level give this collection the necessary breadth to serve the purposes of both students and scholars. The collection thus serves as an overview of the Legislature's activity during this period, but also is indicative of the political life of the state during a time of rapid political, economic and social change. The collection spans Beverly's tenure in the California State Legislature from 1967 to 1996 and totals 120 archival boxes, one oversize box, and eleven flat files. Deeded to the Center for the Study of Los Angeles in 1996, it forms Collection Number CSLA-7. The collection is open for research with some restrictions under the conditions of the Center's access policy. (We restricted one folder from series eight because it contained confidential information. See the series description for more information). Records may be copied for use in individual scholarly or personal research. Researchers are responsible for obtaining copyright permission.
