Arthur P. Jacobs Collection

Arthur P. Jacobs was born in Los Angeles in 1922 and attended the University of Southern California, beginning his motion picture career as a messenger at MGM. He became a publicist at that studio, at Warner Brothers and then as the head of his own firm. In the mid-1960s Jacobs launched a successful career as an independent producer. He is probably best known for the Planet of the Apes series (1968-73), but he also produced several successful films. A short list of titles includes What a Way to Go! (1964); Doctor Doolittle (1967); The Chairman (1969); Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1969); Play It Again, Sam (1970); Tom Sawyer (1973) and Huckleberry Finn (1974). Jacobs died in 1973.

The collection includes files from his publicity firm (15 linear feet); production files from his motion pictures (65 linear feet); art work; photographs; sound recordings; books and other memorabilia.

The collection currently has only Series 2: Motion Picture Production Files open to researchers. This series contains Jacobs’ files from his movie productions. To access the box list (arranged by title of movie), select Series 2.
