Addiction Counseling Certificate Program

The State of California requires that anyone who provides counseling services in alcohol and other drug treatment programs become certified. The certification process is designed to ensure proficiency in core addiction counseling competencies and related performance domains. In reponse to the practical realities of meaningful worforce development in substance abuse treatment, LMU Extension’s Public Health Studies division now offers a 45-unit,
450-hour Addiction Counseling Certificate (ACC). Among the premier programs of its kind in California, its innovative educational philosophy is informed by our broader University Mission: to shape and propel leadership within themes of social justice and service to community, a commitment to personal excellence, and care for the "whole" person.

Evening classes are held Monday through Thursday, featuring a prestigious faculty, small class sizes, state-of-the-art “smart” classrooms, and free parking. Saturday daytime classes are also available. Our ACC coursework can be completed in less than 11 months, and exceeds the requirements of the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC).
