What is LINK+?
LINK+ is an alternative service to conventional interlibrary loans. LMU students, faculty, and staff are able to obtain books not available in the William H. Hannon Library from participating LINK+ libraries. “Not available” means that the LMU library doesn’t have the book in its collection; it is lost, missing, in repair; or checked out.
When you access the LINK+ catalog in search of a book, LINK+ is actually exploring the stacks of over 50 other California and Nevada libraries totalling 19 million books for its availability.
At this time, media items, journals, and software do not circulate through LINK+.
LINK+ also allows LMU patrons to pickup books at other LINK+ libraries. Information about the LINK+ Pick-up Anywhere and LINK+ Visiting Patron services is below.
Why should I use LINK+?
One of the conveniences of LINK+ over customary interlibrary loan is that it is generally quicker. Delivery is usually as fast as 3-4 business days.
However, an even greater benefit of LINK+ over interlibrary loan is that it is easy to use. You can place your requests in LINK+ directly and not through our ILL Office. There are no stops at the reference desk to fill out forms and the user can easily monitor a request’s status by looking at his/her own patron record in LINUS, the library’s online catalog.
How does LINK+ work?
Search for the item you need in the library catalog. If LMU doesn’t have an available copy, click the LINK+ button in the right hand column. Your search will be repeated in the LINK+ catalog. When your item appears, click request this item. Select Loyola Marymount from the drop down menu and click submit above information. Fill in your name and library barcode from the back of your OneCard and click Submit above information.
The system will access your patron information from LINUS. If your patron record is in good standing, LINK+ will complete the request.
How will I know my book has arrived?
Monitor the status of your requests by checking your own patron record. Click HERE to view your library patron record. See what you have borrowed and have on hold.
You will receive a pick-up notice via email when your book arrives.
Pick up your LINK+ books at the circulation desk or at a Pick Up Anywhere library (see below).
Anything else I should know?
Eligible patrons can request up to 25 LINK+ books at a time.
The loan period for LINK+ books is 21 days with one 21-day renewal.
Overdue fines for LINK+ books accrue at $1 a day. The replacement fee for LINK+ books is $115.
LINK+ books will be held at the circulation desk and returned to the lending library after 10 days.
LINK+ requests are not transferable. For example: A research assistant cannot request a book using his library barcode and then check it out on a professor's library record..
What is Pick-up Anywhere?
Pick-up Anywhere allows LMU users to request LINK+ books to be picked up at a location other than the William H. Hannon Library. Note: Books owned by LMU cannot be delivered using this service. Click here for more information about the Pick-Up Anywhere service.
May I visit a LINK+ library and check out their books?
Yes. Several LINK+ libraries allow LMU users to check out books directly from their stacks without prior arrangement. Click here for more information about the Visiting Patron service.
