Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to invite you to attend our fourth annual First Year Student Academic Convocation, which will take place on Sunday, August 24th at 12:00 noon in Gersten Pavilion. Our first three Convocations have been a great success, and we are looking forward to another wonderful kick off to the academic year.
As has become our Convocation tradition, our program will include an academic procession, with full regalia, introductory remarks from Fr. Lawton and a keynote address. Professor Cheryl Grills will give the keynote address to our entering class, encouraging them to live their class motto: Sit in Humility; Rise in Responsibility.
The Deans and I are delighted that LMU now marks the beginning of our students’ time with us with an event of academic focus and significance, just as we mark the conclusion of their studies with Commencement. We look to this First Year Student Academic Convocation as an important and valued annual tradition. In keeping with the processional and serious nature of the convocation, we have asked the students to dress professionally, and they will process to Gersten from their residence halls.
Please mark your calendars to attend this event. All faculty are especially welcome and encouraged to participate. The Deans and I look forward to seeing the Vice Presidents, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Summer Orientation Advisors and the Student Affairs Management Team participate in the procession and attend the Convocation. As the Convocation draws nearer, you will receive specific information about where and when to meet and details on the procession.
I look forward to seeing you on August 24th as we welcome the Class of 2012.
Sincerely,

Ernest Rose, Ph.D.
Sr. Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer
