Welcome from the Faculty Senate
On behalf of your colleagues serving on the Faculty Senate, welcome to LMU. I can still remember feeling more than a little overwhelmed during my own new faculty orientation, bombarded with important information about so many aspects of the university. As you begin your career at LMU, there are two things I’d like you to know about the Senate. It is critically important to our lives as faculty members. At the same time, you should know that you can leave it in the background as you launch your classes, work on your research agenda and get to know your colleagues.
The Faculty Senate is the most important tool we have to change what needs to be changed and to preserve and reinforce what needs to be preserved and reinforced to make this into the university we want to spend our careers at. As your career at LMU develops, as you come to feel more and more a part of this community of scholars, I hope you will recognize the Faculty Senate as an important and useful means to participate in the life of the university.
