Course Offerings
Academic Program
Students will enroll in one of two 3-unit courses. The courses are taught by John P. Waggoner Ph.D., Professor of Biology at Loyola Marymount University. Through 12 trips since 1984, John Waggoner has spent over 2 ½ years in eastern and southern Africa. He teaches a Biology of Mammals course at LMU. The emphases in the Africa Biology Program are on students achieving an understanding of the fascinating and different patterns of social structure in a number of species of commonly seen African mammals, and, in the field, being able to identify not only the animal species but also specific behaviors which illustrate social systems. The more common and spectacular bird species will be emphasized, as well as the associations between habitat type and fauna in Southern Africa.
