Cosgrove Scholarhip Recipient Receives Award for Documentary
John F. Cosgrove M.A. ’77, LMU Trustee and CEO of Cosgrove/Meurer Productions, is well known at LMU for his generosity. He is a film and television producer and director and has supported both the School of Film and Television and the College of Communication and Fine Arts. One significant example of his support is the Cosgrove Family Endowed Scholarship, which honors and supports creatively promising students from the School of Television and who have financial hardship.
Hung P. Nguyen, a graduate student in the School, was the first recipient of the Cosgrove Scholarship. Hung’s documentary film “Going Home,” a moving story that focuses on his mother’s remembrance of their family’s harrowing escape from Vietnam in 1982, won the Cary Grant Film Award in 2006. The award, presented to only one student filmmaker each year, is given by the Princess Grace Foundation-USA. By supporting talented students like Hung, the Cosgrove Family Endowed Scholarship helps young visionaries tell their stories. Their exceptional work inspires other students to excel and increases LMU’s influence in the entertainment industry.
