Catholic Inclusive Education

LMU's Catholic Inclusive Education program prepares teachers and administrators in Catholic schools to become leaders in supporting parochial school students with exceptional needs. Courses are designed to provide a foundation in both general and special education with a specific emphasis on inclusion within the Catholic school context.

Fulltime teachers in Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are eligible for substantial financial assistance if they are accepted into this program.

Program Options
Based on their experience and professional goals, candidates can apply to either the Master's degree (MA) program, or the Certificate program.

The MA requires 30 units, and consists of the following courses:

  • EDUC 6100  Anthropological Analysis of Cultural Diversity
  • EDUC 6101  Psychology and Education of Culturally/Linguistically Diverse Students with Exceptional Needs
  • EDUC 6103  Curriculum and Instructional Leadership
  • EDUC 6105  Assessment and Research Methodology
  • EDUC 6106  Human Development and Learning
  • EDUC 6300  Creating Effective Classrooms in Diverse Settings
  • EDUC 6304  Policies and Issues in Education for Diverse Learners with Disabilities
  • EDUC 6821  Informal Assessment and Program Development in Catholic Schools
  • EDUC 6822  Creating Successful Inclusion Programs
  • EDUC 6823  Advanced Practicum in Inclusive Education

Plus one of the following

  • EDUC 6695  Comprehensive Examination
  • Thesis



The Certificate requires 15 units, and consists of the following courses:

  • EDUC 6101  Psychology and Education of Culturally/Linguistically Diverse Students with Exceptional Needs
  • EDUC 6103  Curriculum and Instructional Leadership
  • EDUC 6300  Creating Effective Classrooms in Diverse Settings
  • EDUC 6821  Informal Assessment and Program Development in Catholic Schools
  • EDUC 6822  Creating Successful Inclusion Programs
