Subject: Commencement Weekend 2008

Commencement Liturgy – Friday, May 9, 7:30 p.m., in Gersten Pavilion

Everyone is welcome to attend this inspiring liturgy, which represents the mission of the University and combines our University’s rich academic and religious traditions. Those attending are expected to wear academic attire (excluding caps) and enter in procession. The procession will begin at 7:20 p.m. Please report to the main lobby of Burns Recreation Center by 7:00 p.m. Staff from the Office of the Registrar will be there to assist you. You are welcome to join the reception along Alumni Mall immediately following the liturgy.

The Undergraduate Ceremony – Saturday, May 10, 9:30 a.m., in Sunken Garden

  • Attendance: Full-time faculty members are expected to attend unless specifically excused by the Chief Academic Officer. All part-time faculty members are invited to attend. LMU administrators are also cordially invited to participate.
  • All departmental pre-commencement festivities must conclude by 7:50 a.m. so that the ceremony begins on time. (Students are required to assemble at 8:00 a.m. in Gersten Pavilion.)
  • Unless otherwise notified, faculty and administration should assemble for robing at Dunning Courtyard, located in front of the Laband Gallery in the Burns Fine Arts Center. Refreshments will be available beginning at 8:15 a.m.
  • Faculty will line up by College.
  • Administration may line up behind the College or School of their choice.
  • At 9:00 a.m., the faculty will begin processing behind the graduating seniors and will continue to Regents Terrace.

The Graduate Ceremony – Sunday, May 11, 10:00 a.m., in Sunken Garden

  • Attendance: All directors of graduate programs and full-time graduate faculty members are expected to attend unless specifically excused by the Chief Academic Officer. Faculty members who teach graduate classes are encouraged to attend. LMU administrators are also cordially invited to participate.
  • Unless otherwise notified, faculty and administration should assemble for robing at Foley Lobby by 9:30 a.m.
  • The procession to Sunken Garden will begin at 9:45 a.m.

I encourage your participation in the Commencement Liturgy and both commencement ceremonies, and I enlist your help in ensuring that we have successful and dignified ceremonies.
