This collection consists of a map hand-drawn in 1876 on linen cloth of Rancho La Ballona, which covered present-day Venice, Culver City, and West Los Angeles. In the 1820s, Agustín and Ygnacio Machado settled this area, which served as a cattle ranch. The map records the division of the rancho among the heirs of Agustín Machado in 1876 as the result of a lawsuit among these family members. Annotations on the map note each heir's allotment of pasture, farmland, and beachfront. Because the map is in poor condition, it is now restricted from research use.  A copy (of 1:1 ratio to the original) is used for research purposes. The copy is found in Box 1ov; the original is in 2ov. There is also a photographic negative, stored in Box 3ov.
