How to Apply-Spring 2009

Do not wait until you have been admitted to apply for financial aid.

You are required to meet the financial aid deadlines stated below regardless of when you are admitted to LMU.

By LMU’s October 15, 2008 deadline you must:

Step 1: Complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) by October 15, 2008.

You can complete your 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) either online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by mailing a FAFSA application to the federal processor.

• Make sure your FASFA has been received by the federal processor by October 15, 2008.
• Make sure your FAFSA is error free by October 15, 2008. Approximately one-week after you complete the FAFSA online, check www.fafsa.ed.gov to review your Student Aid Report (SAR) to find out if there are any messages notifying you of errors so that you can correct them prior to the October 15, 2008 deadline.
• Make sure the federal processor receives your signature and the signature of at least one parent either by mail or electronically by October 15, 2008. You will need a federal PIN (Personal Identification Number) to complete your FAFSA online. You should have at least one parent apply for a federal PIN so they can sign your FAFSA electronically. Remember, it will take two days to get a federal PIN, so make sure your parent has a PIN with enough time to provide a FAFSA signature by the October 15, 2008 deadline. If your parent does not have a PIN, you will need to print a signature page and send it to the federal processor in order for it to be received by the October 15, 2008 deadline.
• Make sure you have listed LMU as a school to receive your FAFSA record. LMU’s school code is #001234.

Step 2: Complete the 2008-2009 CSS PROFILE Application by October 15, 2008.
You can complete the 2008-2009 CSS PROFILE at https://profileonline.collegeboard.com. Make sure the College Board has received your completed CSS PROFILE application by October 15, 2008.
• Make sure you listed LMU as a school to receive your CSS PROFILE results. LMU’s school code is #4403

STEP 3: Submit your and your parents’ 2007 Federal Income Tax Returns
Should you decide to accept admission to LMU you may be required to submit your and your parents’ 2007 federal tax returns to the Financial Aid Office. If you or your parents are not required to file a 2007 federal tax return, you must submit the non-filer forms which are available for download at www.lmu.edu/financialaid.  The information collected in these returns/non-filing statements, will be used to verify the financial information provided on the FAFSA or CSS Profile
Step 4: Submit any requests for additional documentation or information to LMU Financial Aid Office within 10 days of the request.   All requests for additional information will be made to the e-mail address provided on your LMU admissions application, or if you are a continuing LMU student, to your LMU Lion e-mail account.

Check list:
• Check the status of your 2008-2009 FASFA application at www.fafsa.ed.gov
• Check your e-mail
