LMU FoS Working Group Wraps Up Summer Meetings On Saturday, August 11 th
, 2007, the LMU Family of Schools Working Group held its third and final
in-person meeting to share progress updates, hold discussions about
next steps, and to celebrate its success.
This volunteer broad-based fact-finding body came together over the
summer at LMU to do the research and preparation necessary to engage
the community in well-informed and fruitful dialogues beginning in late
August.
The group set out to help answer two key questions:
-
Do any or all of the schools within LMU FoS want to submit a proposal
to the Innovation Division of the LAUSD seeking greater school or
cluster autonomy?
- What are the ways in which to articulate the role of the many stakeholders within the structure of a Family of Schools?
As the
summary presentation
demonstrated, we did a lot of work together, and we have a lot more to
do. One of the major take-aways from our time together was a list of
shared definitions of excellence in schools. This draft list is an
exciting first step in creating a community-wide vision of what we
believe excellent schools look like and how to measure this. There is
still much work left to do on this list, but this is a great starting
point.
