Basement Storage Items
Many items in LINUS show the location, Basement Storage.
You are eligible to request these items online or at a service desk if you have a ONECARD and/or a visitor’s card with a library barcode. (If you aren’t sure, please contact the Circulation Desk at 310-338-5709)
There are two ways to request items – either online through the request button in the catalog, or by coming to the Circulation Desk for a book or journal, or to the Media & Reserves Counter for audio/video items. (Note: only patrons with a OneCard or visitor card w/ Library no. can request items using the online form)
Online Requests:
- received by 1pm will be available for pickup by 3pm
- received after 1pm will be available for pickup, next morning, one hour after opening.
- If you come to a counter and request an item, we will do our best to retrieve the item quickly, as staffing allows.
Popular Reading Collection
The checkout period for books in the Popular Reading Collection is 3 weeks. One 2-week renewal is possible; please ask at the Circulation Desk or call (310) 338-5709.
LINK+
The checkout period for LINK+ books for all patrons is 3 weeks. For LINK+ books, renewing online (2 week renewal) is really a request to renew. This request will be processed by the LINK+ system and will not be immediate or automatic. Please be sure to check back a little later to see if the renewal you requested was approved.
Media
Students may use the media collection in the library only . However, for class presentations, we have a faculty signed permission slip that will allow a student to take a specific item to class for a 3 hour duration. For a copy of the form, please visit the Media & Reserves Counter on the 2nd floor of the library, or phone (310) 338-3094 for assistance.
Renewals
Instead of having to bring your books and media into the library to renew them, you can renew these items online at My Library Record using your name and the library number on the back of your OneCard.

Recalls
You may recall any item that is checked out, with the exception of media and/or reserve items. The person who has the recalled book must return it within 3 weeks. You will be notified upon it's return. You will then have five days to pick it up at the Circulation Desk. Please contact the Circulation Desk at (310) 338-5709 to change your contact information or preferred contact method.
You can also check the status of a recall at My Library Record .
Fines
You are responsible for paying your library fines throughout the semester. Your library privileges will be blocked at $10.00; at that point, the fees must be paid in full.
You may pay library fines by OneCard Flexi Dollars, check, Visa or Master Card. Pay fines at the Circulation Desk. There is a minimum of $5 that can be charged on the credit card machine.

Book Return Locations
Inside the library, you may return books at the Circulation Desk. Please return media items (DVDs, video tapes) upstairs, at the Media and Reserves Desk.
For your convenience, we also have return bins at convenient locations, from which library staff will make pick-ups daily:
- Car and pedestrian accessible return bins located behind the Burns complex on Ignatian Circle Drive
- University Hall on Parking Level One, near the elevators, accessible by foot or car.

Print Periodicals
The faculty checkout period for printed periodicals is 7 days. One 7-day renewal is possible.
Media
LMU faculty and staff may check out media items for three days. Media items may be renewed twice, no earlier than two days before their due date; each renewal is for one week. Extensions are allowed on a per case basis. Materials may be reserved ahead of time for a specific date and time by using our online Media Advance Booking Form . For more information, please visit the Media & Reserves Counter on the 2nd floor of the library, or phone (310) 338-3094.

Jesuit Library Passport
The faculty of Jesuit colleges and universities now have borrowing privileges at all 28 Jesuit institutions in the United States. Access includes circulating and electronic materials, in addition to space for quiet study and research. To establish on-site borrowing privileges at other Jesuit libraries, please contact Library Administration at (310) 338-4593 and request a Jesuit Library Passport Borrower Form.
