Chris Nichols to speak on Alumni Weekend
In conjunction with our current exhibition, “Side by Side: Images of a Changing Los Angeles,” noted Los Angeles preservationist Chris Nichols will give a free lecture in the Charles Von der Ahe Library atrium on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 2:00 PM.
Chris Nichols is a native Southern Californian who has worked in the historic preservation community for almost twenty years. In 2000 he was elected chair of the Los Angeles Conservancy Modern Committee. Nichols is part of the Getty Research Institute team creating a master architectural survey of Los Angeles in 2007.
His work has been profiled in Smithsonian Magazine, the Los Angeles Times, L.A. Weekly, Metropolis and on NPR. He is currently an editor at Los Angeles Magazine and writes a column called "Ask Chris."
The event also will feature a panel of LMU student artists who participated in the “Side by Side” exhibition. Erik Benjamins and Malia Prietto will speak about their experience documenting changes in the Los Angeles cityscape with their photography.
