Bible Study Leadership (Estudio de Biblia)
The Certificate Program in Bible Study Leaderhip is a three year, six-semester program facilaited via the Catholic Bible Institutes, which are co-sponorsed by the Center and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Diocese of San Bernardino. This program involves a comprehensive study of the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, with partiular focus on methods of study, sharing and praying with scripture, and application of skills in bible-study leadership. The goal of the program is four-fold: to grow in appreciation of God's revealed Word; to foster a Catholic understanding of the study of scripture; to integrate bible-study with prayer and Christian living; and to provide formation and training for parish-based bible study.
The Institutes are experiential learning opportunities. A team of facilitators utilizes a variety of instruction methods appropriate to adult learning. These methods include presentations by qualified biblical studies instructors, small group discussion on themes, communal praying of scripture, monthly reading assignments including scripture passages and biblical commentaries, monthly reflection papers and additional written assignments. Courses meet one Saturday a month during the Spring and Fall academic terms (semesters).
Program open to non-certificate students. Those seeking personal enrichment are encouraged in their studies through participation with those seeking certification.
