“How should I prepare?”
Develop at least 3 questions to ask your alumni table host, and come prepared to pose those questions. Write them down and bring them with you if you need to.
Review the bio of your alumni host, and tailor your questions as appropriate. Also, review the bios of all the alumni hosts who will be present, and become familiar with their names prior to the dinner.
You may be interested in knowing how the alumnus/a became interested in his/her current line of work, how his/her major at LMU helped to secure the first job, what was the biggest challenge he/she has overcome, etc.
Be prepared to interact with others. Step out of your comfort zone and introduce yourself to other students as well as the alumni in attendance.
“What will the program be like?”
There will be a reception during the first 20 minutes, which will afford you and the alumni the opportunity to meet, especially with those not seated at the same table.
We will be seated for dinner, there will be a dinner blessing, and then student introductions will begin. Feel free to begin the conversation by asking the alumni host one of your questions.
Before dessert, each alumni host will address the entire group. The group will then be invited to get their dessert from the buffet. Utilize this time to mix and mingle.
If you’ve made a connection and would like to keep in touch with your alumni host, don’t be afraid to ask if it’s appropriate that you keep in touch with him/her.
“What time should I arrive and where will I go?”
Please arrive at 6:00 pm.
The dinner will be held in the McIntosh Center, third floor of University Hall.
