California State Grants

State Grants

Cal Grant Programs

The State of California offers state grants to students who are California residents. These state grants are based on family income, assets and grade point average. California residents must have completed the Cal Grant GPA Verification form or had their GPA sent to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) from their high school or current college and completed a FAFSA by March 2, 2008 to be considered for a Cal Grant for 2008-2009.

The Cal Grant A provides a tuition only award for up to eight semesters of enrollment.  The Cal Grant B is provided for the neediest students and provides an access award for the first two semesters of enrollment and a tuition and access award for the final six semesters.

Cal Grants are renewable for a maximum of eight semesters, provided you apply for financial aid each year and continue to meet the renewal requirements established by CSAC.

The California Chafee Grant Program gives money to foster youth, and former foster youth to use for career and technical training or college courses. You do not have to pay this money back as long as you are in school and you can use it for things like child care, transportation and rent. The Chafee Grant Program, also known as the Education and Training Voucher (ETV), is a federally funded program and is subject to the availability of federal funds each year.
