Goals

"Right Place. Right Time. The Campaign for LMU" has five key goals. Combined these areas reflect LMU’s vision for becoming on of the country’s truly distinguished values-driven institutions. The goals will helps us as we prepare our student to be citizens and shapers of the world.

Enriching the campus environment - $124.2 million

LMU’s campaign will fund three major capital improvement projects. Scheduled for completion in 2009, the William H. Hannon Library is the highest priority for the university. Additionally, LMU plans to build a new science and research complex for the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering and an athletic administrative and training complex. All three facilities will offer state-of-the-art resources to enrich the lives of students, faculty and staff.

Attracting diverse and talented students - $77.3 million

LMU is committed to drawing an increasingly strong group of scholars and maintaining a diverse student body. Through merit-scholarship and need-based financial-aid, LMU is dedicating a portion of the campaign funds to support deserving graduate and undergraduate students with tuition expenses.

Scholarships are just one way donors may opt to support the campaign. Almost 80 percent of current LMU students receive some type of financial assistance to pay for tuition. Better financial packages for students will create more opportunities for deserving scholars to achieve their career aspirations.

Recruiting and retaining distinguished faculty - $52.5 million

While LMU’s focus is to retain its current talented faculty, the university is also seeking out pre-eminent educators to build upon the work of their distinguished predecessors. Chairs in nanotechnology, lay pastoral leadership, entertainment law and interdisciplinary Los Angeles are among the numerous positions the university will create through the campaign.

Ensuring innovative academic programs - $79.4 million

LMU is already home to a number of distinctive and acclaimed programs such as the annual Bellarmine Forum. The forum provides an in-depth interdisciplinary investigation of current interest to the Los Angeles community. Another successful program is Partners in Los Angeles Catholic Education (PLACE). PLACE boasts a 91 percent retention rate for new teachers compared to the national average of 50 percent.

An investment in developing more new programs such as these and other existing academic enterprises will increase LMU’s national prominence and foster innovation.

Providing for ongoing needs - $46.6 million

Unrestricted funding allows the university to address new challenges and opportunities as they arise, giving LMU the flexibility to effect change as well anticipate challenges.
