The city of Osaka has been a major center of commerce since the 18 th century and remains today an expanding hub of business and industry. In addition to the business aspect of the city, Osaka is a center for pop culture and never ceases to generate a variety of new and unique trends that expand dimensions of o the Japanese urban experience.


Kansai Gaidai and The Asian Studies Program

Kansai Gaidai is a private university located in Hirakata City, between Kyoto and Osaka. It was established in 1945 as a small, private language school. Founder Takako Tanimoto hoped to create an institution which would develop in its students a sense of internationalism. Since its establishment, Kansai Gaidai has earned an excellent reputation for high quality education within Japan as within Japan as well as abroad. The Asian Studies Program at Kansai Gaidai is committed to educating students about the various dimensions of Japanese life: language, cultural values, business structures and practices, political institutions, art literature and historical landmarks in the evolution of international relations. All courses, except Japanese language courses, are conducted in English. Students must enroll in a Japanese language course.
