As of 11:30 AM today, inspection has been done and work is progressing to get the final connections made. Once that new connection is made everything would be re-energized including Burns Fine Arts and Collins; the timetable for that looks like early evening.

Also, paving has already started on the south side of the trench near Mckay as we extend our efforts to get this road repaved before Mid-Saturday.

SPECIAL NOTICE (December 9, 2007)
-

Late Saturday night, a major power outage occurred in UH.  Offices along the southside (hillside) of UH on all floors were affected.  The building is back up and running under generator power, there will be some noise near the main entrance from the generator.  The cause of this incident is under investigation and we hope to have repairs completed soon.

Some parking on P1 has been blocked off to run the power cables from the generator, a guard will be posted for your safety.

Also, it was necessary to shut down the elevator on the bridge side of the building.  The P1 exit from the elevator leads directly to energized power cables running along this wall.  Pedestrians will be able to access the stairs at this end at P2, lobby and second floor, but NOT at P1.  The stairwell door is secured at this level.  Signs explaining this are being posted at all levels.

The other elevators and escalators are working normally.

All ITS and Telecom equipment are functioning appropriately.  Please contact the ITS helpdesk if you need assistance with your equipment.

Please contact the Facilities Management Help Desk (fm_help@lmu.edu) if you should experience any building issues.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Christmas Trees (November 27, 2007) - In an effort to minimize the significant fire risks associated with cut Christmas trees, Environmental Health & Safety and Facilities Management requires that all trees are either a fire-resistant artificial tree or a tree that has been treated with a fire retardant. In the case of the latter, a tag* will be attached to the tree. Your local tree vendor can provide you with the resources to purchase a tree that has been treated. This is also to include wreaths.

After setting up your fire retardant cut tree, please ensure that the tree is kept watered and care is taken when using electrical decorations. When ready for disposal, please contact the Facilities Management Help Desk (fm_help@lmu.edu) to arrange for the proper pick up and disposal of your tree before the holiday break.

NOTE: Cut or live trees are not permitted in any residence halls or apartments within Student Housing.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

*Click (Christmas Tree Tag) for a sample of the tag.

Dirt Hauling Completed Ahead of Schedule (October 24, 2007) - Snyder Langston's extensive construction experience reduced the dirt hauling schedule by almost 50%.  By hiring one of the best excavating crews in the industry and through the cooperation and patience of the LMU community, the general contractor was able to coordinate an efficient and effective plan.  There will still be some occasional hauling as construction on the William H. Hannon Library continues.

SPECIAL NOTICE (September 27, 2007) - University Hall escalators are designed to move passengers from one floor to the next. Passengers are required to stand in the steps and hold on to the handrails while traveling. You may have noticed that many of our escalators have been out of service from time to time. It has been discovered that passengers are either sitting on the handrails or holding themselves up in a handstand-type fashion on the handrails. This places an extraordinary amount of weight on the handrails thereby abusing the internal mechanisms that prevent its proper operation. We have also discovered that passengers are rolling their skateboards in the area between the two escalators causing damage to the surface. Please be advised that these actions must cease immediately. Public Safety and Facilities Management will be monitoring these areas closely to ensure that the proper operation and use of the escalators continue to provide service to our community. Your cooperation is appreciated.
