A Withdrawal or Leave of Absence from the University
A leave of absence for up to two years may be granted if a student withdraws from all courses in the term and does not attend another educational institution during that time. A withdrawal or leave of absence must be made by the deadline noted in the academic calendar as the "Last day to withdraw from a class." The student will receive grades of "W" for all courses in that semester and not incur academic penalty.
As soon as a student is aware that a withdrawal or leave of absence from the semester is necessary, the following should be completed:
- Drop all classes via PROWL
- Complete an online Withdrawal or Leave of Absence form
- Contact the Financial Aid Office in order to determine adjusted eligibility for Financial Aid awards.
- Cancel campus housing with the Student Housing Office.
Students who drop all courses may be eligible for a refund based on a percentage scale as noted in the academic calendar. The reason for the withdrawal or leave of absence does not affect the percentage of the tuition refund, which complies with the Higher Education Amendments Act. See the University’s refund policy for further details.
The Tuition Refund Plan (TRP) can protect an undergraduate student’s investment by reimbursing tuition and housing charges should it be necessary to withdraw from the semester due to health reasons. TRP must be purchased prior to the start of the semester, and claims must be verified by a licensed physician.
Students should not apply for a withdrawal or leave of absence when participating in an approved LMU study abroad program.
