PRIDE Emergency Response Course

Help Yourself, Help Others

There is a need to equip as many persons as possible in the LMU community with the ability to assist traditional campus first responders in the event of an emergency incident. Widespread emergency events such as earthquakes can delay the response of public emergency responders by hours or even days as the community need temporarily overwhelms local resources. Our collective responsibility to safeguard the LMU community dictates the need to organize and train the members of our community to take care of themselves until outside help arrives.

We have developed the PRIDE (Positive Response in Disasters and Emergencies) Course to address the need described above. This 24-hour curriculum is divided into twelve, two-hour modules to help attendees fit the course into their schedules. The twelve modules contain a total of 24 subjects (listed below) essential for making a difference in an emergency situation. Especially appropriate for volunteer first responders such as Building Captains, employees such as Resident Advisors, and others who may be called upon to act in an emergency, we also encourage resident students and anyone else at LMU with an interest to take this course.
