Dean, Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering

In August 2005, Richard Plumb came to Loyola Marymount University to begin his new position as Dean of the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering. Prior to that he was a professor and the chair in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the State University of New York at Binghamton and served in that role since 1988. From 1989 to 1998 he was an assistant and then associate professor at the University of Kansas.

Plumb’s research expertise is in electromagnetic scattering and ground-penetrating radar, a technology that holds significant promise in a number of military and civilian applications, including detection and location of underground bunkers and land mines as well as road construction and subsurface storage tank detection.

Plumb has received numerous awards, including selection as a University of Kansas Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow, receipt of the University of Kansas Miller Professional Award for Distinguished Service to Engineering Research, an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Prize Paper Award for best publication in the IEEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility, and selection as an IEEEE Outstanding Electrical Engineering Senior.

Plumb earned his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Syracuse University.
