African American Alumni Association 5th Annual Scholarship Fund Gala
Saturday, February 24th, Over 250 alumni, students, friends, and donors celebrated the African American Alumni Association’s 5
th
Annual Scholarship Fund Gala. The gala featured a live performance by the CrosssHart Jazz Experience, African Drummers, and a keynote Address by Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent David Brewer. The host of the evening was LMU Board of Trustee Rosemary Turner ’84, Vice President of Metro Philadelphia District, UPS. The Honorees included
John Davis, Ph.D.
, who received the African American Alumni Association Legacy Award. Davis is the chair emeritus of the Department of African American Studies at Loyola Marymount University. Lawrence Bobo ’79 , Ph.D. received the William L. Strickland Excellence Award. Bobo was recognized for his professional achievements as the director of Stanford’s Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, as well as the Program in African and African American Studies. Finally, The Inaugural Hon. Irma Brown Dillon Community Service Award was presented to the Hon. Irma Brown Dillon ’70, JD ’73. Dillon is a judge of the Superior Court in Inglewood, and an LMU trustee. She also is a founding board member of the African American Alumni Association, and the namesake of the award which will honor leaders who exemplify LMU’s mission and tradition of serving others.
