Federal Pell Grants

The Federal Pell Grant, is a federal, need-based grant awarded to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree. Awards are based on full-time (12 -18 units) enrollment. However, students enrolled in fewer than 12 units may be eligible to receive a prorated Federal Pell Grant based on Federal Pell Grant schedules.

The maximum award for the 2008-09 award year (July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009) is $4,731. The maximum can change each award year based on your financial need, cost to attend school and whether you enroll as a full-time or part-time student.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) is a federal, need-based grant awarded to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree. Priority is given to students who demonstrate exceptional financial need and who have been awarded the Federal Pell Grant.

Full-time enrollment (12-18 units) is required to receive this award.  FSEOG funds are limited and funds may not be available for applicants who do not meet LMU’s priority funding deadlines. 
The amount of FSEOG eligible students may  receive will be between $100 and $1,200 based on your financial need and the available funding at LMU.

The Academic Competitiveness Grant

The Academic Competitiveness Grant is a federal, need-based grant awarded to undergraduate freshmen and sophomore students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant, completed a ‘‘rigorous high school education’’ as defined by federal guidelines, and are U.S. citizens.  Full-time enrollment (12-18 units) is required to receive this award.

The Academic Competitiveness Grant will provide eligible students up to $750 for the first year of undergraduate study, and up to $1,300 for the second year of undergraduate study.  Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0.

The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National Smart Grant)

The National SMART Grant, is a federal, need-based grant awarded to junior and senior undergraduate students who are Federal Pell Grant recipients, U.S. citizens and who are majoring in subjects determined to be critical to national security. Full time enrollment (12-18 units) is required to receive this award along with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

A National SMART Grant will provide eligible students up to $4,000 each academic year.
