Deepest Sympathy to the Dockweiler Family

11/13/06

The staff of the Charles Von der Ahe Library offer their condolences to the Dockweiler Family for the loss of Miss Julia Stearns Dockweiler, who passed away on November 7, 2006. The debt of the Library to Miss Dockweiler and her family is great. The generous gifts of the Julia Stearns Dockweiler Foundation to the Department of Archives and Special Collections have enabled the Department to enrich its holding of rare books in the area of California history by purchasing such works as the first edition of Francisco Palóu’s biography of Father Junipero Serra (1787). The Dockweilers’ donation of their family papers to LMU significantly deepened the holdings in the areas of Los Angeles history and politics of the Research Collection of the Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles, which the Library administers. The Library is very grateful for the support and interest of the Dockweiler Family and wishes to acknowledge the deep sympathy felt by all our staff on this sad occasion.

The Dockweiler Family’s important role in the shaping of Los Angeles is highlighted in an on-line exhibit.

The Dockweiler Family collections are described in their entirety on the Library’s website.
