Chamber Pieces: Works by Stephen Berkman September 13 – November 23, 2008
Stephen Berkman explores antiquated photographic techniques and optical devices with a spirit roaming between the nineteenth and the twenty-first centuries.  At first glance, one might think his photographs were recorded memories from the past, but strange and humorous elements bring them into the present.  His intriguing installation pieces revel in the mysterious interplay of light and optics transferring images onto a wall, a piece of paper, or film.  Berkman always brings a sense of magic, amusement, and altered views of reality to his work.  The exhibition will present a number of his installations, two of which are being created especially for this presentation, as well as selection of his photographs.
