Our Mission

Career Development Services enhances the student academic experience by providing tools for personal discovery, fostering and developing relationships with the LMU, regional, national and global communities, and facilitating lifelong career exploration and fulfillment

Learning Outcomes

Students engaging with Career Development and Student Employment Services within the Division of Student Affairs will:

  • Develop a well-defined sense of self and confidence in their abilities and gifts.
  • Integrate knowledge and experience in the process of discernment to make life-giving decisions.
  • Take initiative to make meaningful contributions as citizens within and beyond their communities.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the diversity of the human experience and embody the ideals of interculturalism.

First year students who engage with Career Development and Student Employment Services within the Division of Student Affairs will:

  • Value the opportunities for exploration and growth created by participation in this diverse University community.
  • Know the availability of University resources and access them when necessary to enhance their success as University students.
  • Become engaged members in the University community.
  • Develop personal accountability, good judgment and independent thinking toward a balanced life.

Specifically, students engaging with Career Development and Student Employment Services will be able to:

  • Articulate clear personal values and interests.
  • Identify personal skills and abilities.
  • Match personality with a job.
  • Set career goals.
  • Describe a preferred work environment.
  • Write a resume, cover letter and/or personal statement.
  • Gain internship/work experience.
  • Research various careers and jobs.
  • Know the steps to a job search.
  • Explore and apply for graduate school programs.
  • Transition to the world of work and life after graduation.
  • Develop a network of professional contacts
