Careers in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
LMU graduates in electrical engineering and computer science have
gone to work for all types of companies — from large aerospace
companies to small electronics manufacturing firms, from public utilities
to entertainment, from software development and consulting firms to
small tech startups. A significant number have gone to graduate schools,
including medical schools, law schools, and business schools. The program
prepares students to enter the workforce or to enter graduate school
to pursue an area of specialization.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the
largest technical professional society in the world, publishes technical
journals in 35 areas of specialization including Communications,
Computers, Consumer Electronics, Robotics and Automation, and Social
Implications of Technology. This may give you some idea of the broad range of
activities and design areas in which electrical engineering graduates
are involved. Computer scientists also have a wide variety of career
options.
All department graduates can opt for technical careers or become
patent attorneys, technical writers, consultants, teachers, technical
sales representatives, bioinformatics and genetics researchers, economists,
or you name it. The background and training provided by LMU's programs
with emphasis on oral and written communication skills will help you
be successful.
Job Placement
The advantage of individual attention from faculty, small class
sizes, and abundant research opportunities distinguish LMU's graduates from
those of other schools. As a result, students have little trouble
finding employment when teamed up with the University Career Development
Services Office. Also, the College and faculty use their strong ties
throughout regional and national industry to insure rapid placement.
Job Resource Center
AfterCollege, Inc. provides an online job resource center that is
tailored for college students and recent grads who are looking for entry
