Multimedia
Students who elect a Multimedia emphasis are interested in a future of authoring and designing in a world of new media and emerging technogies.
This Emphasis provides a strong foundation in the visual arts , and understanding of critical theory, with the addtion of computer science to have a strong grasp of underlying technolgies.
For example ,Students in Art 360, MULTIMEIDA COMPUTER ARTS, create their art exclusively using digital multimedia art and design tools. Projects include an "Interactive Resume" and a "Hypertext Poem" that incorporate elements of graphic design, digital imaging, 3-D modeling, audio sculpting, video production, and interactive programming. Students are encouraged to find their own voice and to develop a personal aesthetic regarding new media and electronic distribution. These projects have been mastered to CD-ROM, output to dye-sublimation printers, and uploaded to Virtual Art Galleries on the World Wide Web.
The career outlook for students of all areas of visual communication is very encouraging. A Multimedia student at Loyola Marymount can expect to develop a wide range of skills including SOUND, MOTION, TEXT, and PERFORMANCE. In the adjacent Communications Department, students can explore film and video technologies and related interest such as animation and the production of television commercials.
