Curriculum/Courses

Communication Studies courses, engaged in an environment emphasizing close interaction between students and professors, balance theoretical inquiry, research, and practical application. Advanced courses in organizational communication, rhetoric, forensics (the College has a first-rate debate team), intercultural communication, legal communication, political communication, and communication between women and men give students opportunities to apply their solid grounding in organizational communication theory and rhetorical theory. CMST majors also study interpersonal, small group, and social influence phenomena.

Many students also enrich their studies with pre-professional internships for academic credit, study abroad, and active participation in student organizations. Not surprisingly, many student leaders emerge from the CMST major. Communication Studies majors have won the University’s highest academic, service, and leadership honors.
