Campus Opportunities
Performing During the annual Evening of Concert Dance, students at LMU enjoy the opportunity of performing works choreographed by local dance artists as well as the works of nationally famed artists, such as Laura Dean and Al Desio. Dancers perform modern, jazz, tap, ballet, Dunham and world dance.
Our second mainstage concert is the annual Student Dance Concert, which is comprised entirely of student choreography.
Other performance opportunities include:
- Dance Tour - presents dance to schools in the community
- DanceWeek - presents dance classes and performances on the LMU campus
- Department of Theatre Arts & Dance musicals
- Sacred Dance Ensemble - dances at liturgies on campus and in the community
- Student organizations and dance clubs - Na Kolea, Isang Bansa, Kumba Beatz, Swing & Ballroom, Soul Food
- Professionally directed Baile Folklorico
- Theatre Arts
The Theatre Arts program works closely with the Dance program and produces the two dance concerts every spring. Many theatre classes are available to all majors, and students are encouraged to participate in any of the mainstage productions if they have an interest in the theatre. For more information, visit the Theatre Arts Program.
Music Department The Music Department has several groups music lovers can join. Among those available are the Concert Choir, Opera Workshop, Chamber Orchestra and Consort Singers. Each group performs several times a year. Concert Choir and Consort Singers travel each spring to Northern California, performing at several locations along the way.

In the event of injury, students have access to LMU's Student Health Center, as well as physical therapist, Eva Nemeth, R.P.T. Opportunities also exist for those who wish to study Athletic/Dance Training.
Master Classes
Master Classes that are available to dance students include:
Dance Movement Therapy
Dance Techniques
Portfolio Building
Audition Strategies
Massage
Art Criticism
Pilates
Regular Pilates training to Dance major students in the Foley Pilates studio.
Sacred Dance Ensemble A dance group dedicated to religious expression participates in many of the most beautiful and important ceremonies of the Catholic liturgy on campus and in the community.
Senior Thesis Project Every Dance major prepares a senior thesis. This may be a written research project, a performance or a choreographic project. The student with a double major or minor frequently combines both of his/her interests. For instance, a student majoring in both dance and psychology wrote a paper entitled "The Ecstasy of Dance... Why So Much Pain?" A student majoring in dance and business is completing an internship with a manager of local dance companies. Many students choreograph a dance work for the Student Dance Concert. All projects are developed with peer, faculty and guest artist coaching and mentorship.
Del Rey Players
Del Rey Players is a student-run theatre company that produces several shows each year, including a student playwright festival featuring the works of LMU students. Membership is open to all University students. All aspects of production, from design to stage management and from directing to acting, are done by students.
Del Rey Players has cosponsored senior thesis projects including The Tempest, Arcadia and Closer. The organization also sponsors a Hollywood workshop, during which members of the Hollywood community share their experiences of show business and give a few tips on how to break into the business. At the end of the year, Del Rey and Theatre Arts hosts the "Cabaret Awards," the LMU version of the Tony Awards.
