Sponsorship Information

The Center for Ethics and Business at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles
is currently planning its

9th Annual, National Intercollegiate Business Ethics Competition,
a program that includes the LMU Run for the Bay.

We welcome offers of assistance, and we offer a variety of levels of support.

Business Ethics Fortnight (April 19-21, 2007) consists of a series of events held on campus each April that aims to help students understand the importance and the difficulty of doing business ethically. The centerpiece of the event is an intercollegiate student team presentation competition (LMU rounds, April 2-5, and 9-13), in which students make presentations about ethical dilemmas in business to panels of judges from area corporations. In addition, as a way to encourage students to do something tangible for the surrounding community, the program also includes the LMU Run for the Bay (April 21), a 5K run/walk and 10K run which raises money for the local environmental organization, Heal the Bay. The program closes with a concluding ceremony that traditionally features a speaker or panel on some aspect of business ethics and an awards banquet for all the participants.

While Business Ethics Fortnight is strongly supported by the university, the event has grown to the point where outside sponsorship is critical to our continued success. In particular, we would like to increase substantially the number of teams participating from other universities, and to do so requires more funding than Loyola Marymount alone can provide.

Following is detailed information about levels of sponsorship and how any funds will be utilized. If you have questions or would like to discuss the possibility of support, please call Thomas White, Director of the Center, at 310-338-4523 or contact us through this site.

Opportunities for Support

Benefactors: $5,000 - $10,000

Gifts in this range will go towards producing a printed annual publication about the Center for Ethics and Business, a CD-ROM describing the programs and activities of the Center, including the annual Business Ethics Fortnight, and a video of highlights of the 2000 program. Information about the different components of the Fortnight, members of the participating student teams, judges, and contributors will be listed. These materials will become part of a packet to be sent to approximately 2,000 addressees, including Deans of business schools nationwide, members of the national Society for Business Ethics, and other centers for ethics and business throughout the United States. Funds in this category will also be used to establish scholarships to subsidize travel to Los Angeles for teams who otherwise could not afford to participate.

Patrons: $2,000 - $4,999

Gifts in this range will make possible an Awards Banquet that will take place upon the conclusion of Business Ethics Fortnight. Invitations will be sent to all student teams who competed in the presentation competition, as well as to the judges and all contributors. Patron-level donations will also go towards the expenses of the finish line timing company for the LMU Run for the Bay and the production of race T-shirts.

Donors: $1,000 - $1,999

Donations in this range will pay for: advertising purchased to promote the student team presentation competition to our own student body and to other universities nationwide; printing programs for the competition; and printing and mailing registration forms for the LMU Run for the Bay.

Sponsors: $500-$999

This category of donations will pay for trophies, plaques, ribbons, medals and other awards. A wide array of smaller expenses connected with the Center's operation and the organization of the race will also fall into this category.

In-kind donations

In-kind donations of various sorts are also welcome, particularly for the Run, and can save us considerable amounts.

All companies and individuals making donations at any level will be listed in the appropriate after-event publications, most of which will be further utilized to promote our 2007 Business Ethics Fortnight, both nationally and internationally. Where feasible, their names will also appear on the race T-shirt.
