LMU ALUMNI MAKE FILM DEBUT WITH “AMERICAN GUN”

Socially conscious film to open in select markets nationwide Friday, March 24

LOS ANGELES, March 23, 2006 - On Friday, March 24, “American Gun”, a film written, directed, produced and starring LMU alumni opens in select movie theaters in New York, Los Angeles and Orange County.

Nearly 20 LMU alumni worked on the film, including writer/director Aric Avelino ’99; actor Linda Cardellini ’00; producer Ted Kroeber ’99; agent Jim Toth ’92 and entertainment attorney Roger Goff ’87.

“American Gun” interweaves three stories centered on the presence and affect of guns: a single mother dealing with her son’s Columbine-style shooting rampage; the relationship between a gun-shop owner and his granddaughter; and a school principal dealing with a student caught with a handgun on campus.

Avelino wanted to humanize the controversial topic of the nation’s obsession with guns. “It comes down to being a person who has a strong sense of ethics and of how justice can be weaved into storytelling,” said writer/director Avelino, whose screenplay is infused with the socially conscious spirit of LMU and a frank concern for social justice.

The film, which stars Donald Sutherland, Marcia Gay Harden and Forest Whitaker opens Friday at the following theatres:
