Human Subjects and Animal Health & Welfare
Projects that involve the use of human subjects or animals in research, whether funded or unfunded, require specific approval and sign-off by the appropriate LMU commitee: the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for research involving human subjects and the Internal Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) for research involving animals.
All investigators, faculty, and students must complete the free on-line tutorial offered by the NIH Office of Extramural Research, and attach the certificate of completion with each application. The tutorial takes 2 hours. The Human Participant Protections Education for Research tutorial is found here.
**Note- The National Cancer Institute is no longer offering the free on-line tutorial. For those who completed the tutorial through the National Cancer Institute, you may still request a copy of your certificate here.
