Honorable Mention for LMU Faculty
The Reference and User Services Association, a division of the American Library Association, gave Oxford Encyclopedia of Latinos and Latinas in the United States an honorable mention in this year's competition for the Dartmouth Medal. This is high praise coming from the librarians' organization. It is not every year that there is an honorable mention for the Dartmouth. The ALA press release reads: "In years when there are multiple outstanding reference works, the Dartmouth Committee can give honorable mention to other worthy titles. This year, The Oxford Encyclopedia of Latinos & Latinas in the United States is such a title. Edited by Suzanne Oboler and Deena J. González, and published by Oxford University Press, this excellent work traces the history, culture, and achievements of the country's largest minority population."
Several contributors to this massive encyclopedia project are from LMU: Professors Davalos, Espinoza, Partnoy, and Visiting American Cultures Instructor Saavedra!
