Loyola Marymount University is recognized as a leader in the field of Special Education. We take pride in preparing our candidates to serve as caring, professional, and effective teachers for students with exceptional needs. Our rigorous curriculum provides a firm groundwork in research-based best practices, and prepare our graduates to serve not only as effective teachers, but as leaders and advocates for equity and excellence in education.
Our candidates benefit from comprehensive support for completing the academic, fieldwork, and administrative requirements needed to obtain the California Mild/Moderate Education Specialist Credential. This credential authorizes holders to teach in the California public school system, and to serve students with specific learning disabilities, mild to moderate mental retardation, attention deficit and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and serious emotional disturbances. All of our credential programs are authorized by the state of California.
