This program is a partnership between the School of Education at Loyola Marymount University and Teach for America/Los Angeles. Its mission is to address the challenges that students in urban and rural areas face in attaining an excellent education by approaching the issues on two levels.
First, they provide under-resourced public schools with carefully selected, supported teachers. Second, they provide an expanding workforce of committed educators.
The LMU School of Education and Teach for America established a partnership in July, 2000 to provide graduate training and support for TFA teachers in the Los Angeles area. Successful completion of the comprehensive two year, 33 semester-unit program (11 courses), designed for TFA teachers in cohort groups, culminates with a Master of Arts Degree and California teaching credential.
Teach for America has further information on joining their teaching corps. TFA teachers assigned to teach in the Los Angeles area are eligible to apply to the LMU/TFA partnership program.
