Read THE BOOK! A Partly Cloudy Patriot by Sarah Vowell
Every year, the freshman class of Loyola Marymount University is assigned one common book to read. This year, this honor goes to Sarah Vowell’s A Partly Cloudy Patriot, a very thought-provoking work about significant events in American history as it relates to her own life. From the Gettysburg Address and the inauguration of George W. Bush, to media icons like Tom Cruise and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the book captures Vowell’s wit and social awareness, which ultimately sheds some light on the meaning of true patriotism.
Sarah Vowell, who is also a contributor to public radio’s This American Life, will be interacting with the freshman class on Thursday, October 27, 2005 and will address the entire LMU community in Gersten Pavilion later during convo hour (12:15-1:15). Check out
