His creative work/research explores the human portrait through the media of film, video, interview, and still photography. His work has taken him to such places as: India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Egypt, Israel, Haiti, Guatemala, Brazil, Venezuela, Kenya, and Burkina Faso. John was Head of the Cinematography Department at the Australian Film and Television School in Sydney before joining the faculty at LMU in 1989. John has been the recipient of a grant from the American Film Institute. His films and videos have been widely screened at film festivals and museums throughout the United States and Europe.
