Financial Aid

2008-2009 Financial Aid Information

Financial aid eligibility for studying abroad is determined by the type of study abroad program you attend, as well as the type of financial aid you receive.  Only students earning a degree at LMU are eligible.

LMU Study Abroad Programs are those for which you are eligible to receive units and grades that will be counted in your LMU cumulative grade point average. Students are eligible for all federal, state, institutional, and private sources of aid.  Federal work study will not apply.

Non-LMU and Exchange Study Abroad Programs are part of another university or college and you will only receive transfer units at LMU.  Grades will appear on your program’s transcript, but will not be included in your LMU grade point average. Additional instructions to ensure your financial aid can be used at the other institutions are listed below.

A study abroad program for which you will not receive transfer units or grades at LMU is not eligible for any financial aid funds.

Financial aid REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDY ABROAD

You are required to meet with a financial aid counselor prior to departure.
You must maintain a minimum 2.00 term grade point average and complete a minimum of 12 units.
If you study abroad during the spring semester, you are required to complete and submit all required financial aid documents by the required deadlines to apply for financial aid for the next academic year.

Additional Requirements for Study Abroad in a NON-LMU Program

  • You are required to complete a Non-LMU Application Form with LMU’s Study Abroad Office.
  • To receive any financial aid for a Non-LMU program, you must receive approval from your college to transfer the units to your LMU academic record.  The Transfer Course Approval Form must be approved prior to any disbursement of financial aid for the program, and can be obtained with the Non-LMU Application form in the Study Abroad Office.
  • Students must have the Financial Aid Office of the Non-LMU program host school complete LMU’s Consortium Agreement and return it to LMU’s Financial Aid Office 30 days prior to departure for the program.  The Consortium Agreement can be downloaded from the Forms section of the Financial Aid website.  The Consortium Agreement must be received before any financial aid can be disbursed for the program
