MESA

McCarthy Experience in Service and Action

Our Mission
To educate and form men and women for others through a living and learning environment.  Through direct personal contact with the marginalized of our local and global community, resident students will lead efforts to create a more faith-filled and just society by serving others.

Participant Expectations
Participants in this community will be expected to participate in a minimum of 3-5 hours a week of local community service provided by Loyola Marymount University per semester.  You will also be expected to attend community meetings and to contribute to the McCarthy Hall community through programs and the program's bulletin boards.

The McCarth Service and Action Community will work with their moderator to develop and sign a Service and Action Learning Community Housing Agreement.  This Community Standards Agreement will provide guidance for the governance of the participating suites.  The standards will address issues of daily living and methods for resolving interpersonal conflicts.

As a member of MESA, you will also be expected to:

  • Participate in two service projects per semester.
  • Contribute to at least one McCarthy Hall Residence Life program a semester.
  • Attend and participate in monthly community and reflection meetings.
  • Return to McCarthy Hall a day before the halls open to attend introductory activities and sessions.

Application Process
Applications will be available at the Student Housing Office in St. Robert's Hall or in the Center for Service and Action.

Additional Information
Students admitted to the program and fulfilling all requirements will be guaranteed on-campus housing and not required to take part in the general housing selection process.
