Tips for First Year Students

When you first come to college, the change can seem daunting. Maybe you are overwhelmed by all the opportunities being thrown your way, or maybe your new-found independence is leaving you a little lonely. Wherever you're at, LMU has a variety of services to help you make your first year of college a positive experience.

Take note of the following on campus resources:

  • If you are feeling overwhelmed by your classes, then head to The Learning Resource Center to get information on tutoring for study skills, writing, and more than 250 University classes.

  • If you're feeling a little homesick or depressed, call or stop by Student Psychological Services to make an appointment. Services are free for full-time undergraduate students.

  • Questions regarding your financial aid packet can be answered at the Financial Aid Office.

  • Need a job? Visit the Career Development Office for help with job-hunting on and off campus.

  • Lastly, if you want to find more ways to be involved, stop by the First Year Programs Office and get connected with various campus activities and programs.

These resources will help you make a smooth transition to college life, and when in doubt, you can always ask your resident advisor for help.
