Ignatians

A commitment to service and fun!
Prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola
Teach us, Good Lord, to be generous,
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not head the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
save that of knowing that we do Thy Will.
Amen.
History
Named after St. Ignatius of Loyola, author of The Spiritual Exercises and the founder of the Society of Jesus, the Ignatians were founded at Loyola Marymount University in 1981. The Ignatians were the first service organization to form after the merger of Loyola University and Marymount College.
The Ignatians were also the first co-educational service organization of the University. Belles, Crimson Circle and Gryphon Circle were single-sex organizations serving in specific areas of the University. While Belles and Crimson Circle experimented with including a member of the opposite sex in their organization, both organizations decided to remain single-sex. The Ignatians were established to meet the need for a co-educational service organization as well as a service organization that was inclusive of commuter students and students of racial minority communities.
The Ignatians were founded to perform service to the LMU Community as well as off-campus related functions. They were founded to complement the existing service groups and to meet the needs in the athletic and fine arts departments, the Justice Issues Program, and the library, as well as assisting the other service organizations when requested.
The uniform colors of the Ignatians are burgandy, gray and black.
Fran Williams served as the first moderator of the Ignatians and Father Clancey Wallen, SJ, served as chaplain for 18 years. Sr. Mary Beth Ingham, CSJ, has served as moderator of The Ignatians since 1986.
The Ignatians share a history and tradition with the Jesuit Community and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange.
