Gryphon Circle

A commitment to service and fun

History

The Gryphon Circle was originally established at Marymount College in 1968 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. Gryphon Circle was founded as an advisory body to the President of the College. After the merger of Loyola University and Marymount College, the women of Gryphon Circle made themselves available for service to the University Administration, the Provost, and activities on-campus and off-campus.

The name Gryphon Circle comes from a mythological figure that is half lion and half eagle. It is a double symbol, part of heaven and part of earth. Their motto is "In friendship, love and service." The uniform colors are blue and white.
Sr. Raymunde McKay, RSHM, served as the moderator of Gryphon Circle. Dr. Renee Harrangue served as moderator from 1969-1981. Sr. Joan Treacy, RSHM, served as moderator from 1981-1985. Sr. Peg Dolan, RSHM, has served as moderator since 1985.

Gryphon Circle remains an important part of the history and tradition of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary at the University.
