Disabled Parking

The Los Angeles City Parking Enforcement Division routinely patrols the  LMU campus enforcing handicapped stall and fire lane regulations and will cite any vehicle parked in 'Disabled Parking' without the proper placard displayed.

Loyola Marymount University (LMU) complies completely with ADA Standards for Accessible Design.

To apply for a permanent or temporary placard:

  • Complete an Application for Disabled Person Parking Placard or Plates (REG 195). The doctor's statement certifying your disability must be completed on the form.

  • Include a check or money order for $6 if requesting a temporary parking placard. There is no fee for a permanent placard or plates.

  • Mail the application to the address on the form.

  • You will receive your placard approximately 2 weeks after the completed form and fees are submitted.

NOTE: You can also make an appointment and take the completed Application for Disabled Person Placard or Plates (REG 195)to a DMV office near you.

The Department of Public Safety is not authorized to issue Disabled Person Placards or Plates. This must be done through the California Department of Motor Vehicles

According to State Law the only legal use of a placard is by the person to whom it is issued.

It is illegal to:

  • Lend your placard to another person.

  • Use another person's placard.

  • Forge a doctor's signature.

  • Provide false information to obtain a placard.

  • Alter a placard or placard identification card.

  • Possess or display a counterfeit placard.

A note from the Parking Manager:

  • Placard abuse or misuse can result in the cancellation and revocation of the placard and loss of the privileges it provides. Placard abuse is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $250, not more than $1,000, or by imprisonment in a county jail for not more than 6 months, or by both fine and imprisonment.

  • California laws require the surrender of the placard to DMV within 60 days of the death of a placard holder.

  • Placard abuse on LMU Campus property may result in immediate removal of the vehicle from campus.
